Freedom Saves Lives
A man trapped in rubble in Haiti saved himself with his iPhone.
In a larger sense, this illustrates the idea that freedom can save lives. The remaining elements of a free market economy in the US make developing new technology for sale a lucrative prospect. The effort is worth the financial risk, in other words.
Looking to take advantage of the potential rewards leads corporations and individuals to introduce new and innovative products, like Apple did with the iPhone.
In a more regulated environment, the risk inherent in development may not worth the reward. In fact, regulatory barriers may even eliminate the prospect of a reward at all. Under such circumstances, new technologies may not even be introduced.
The free market makes innovation possible and created conditions coducive to the iPhone's introduction.
In the case of one lucky man, freedom helped save a life.
