Yes on HB2280, Arizona's Criminal Trespass Bill PDF Print E-mail

I just called the office of Arizona State Representative Steve Montenegro and learned that SB1175 has undergone a "strike everything" amendment in the House and no longer has anything to do with illegal immigration.  When I called Representative JP Weiers' office, I learned that the language of SB1175 had been transferred to HB2280 through another strike everything amendment.  Originally, that bill was titled "State Budget Revenue and Expenditure Report," but now it is the Criminal Trespass Bill.  HB2280 has passed the House and has been sent back to the Senate for approval.

The staff member I was speaking to in Representative Weiers' office said that the Senate was delaying action on HB2280 while the budget crisis is being resolved.  I told her that in my opinion, the Criminal Trespass Bill (also called the Sanctuary City Bill) was 23 years over due and should be the top priority, even before the budget.  I made it clear that I am not willing to have my taxes raised to pay all the costs associated with Arizona's population of illegal aliens and their families.

It appears likely that this bill will soon pass both houses of the legislature and arrive on the Governor's desk.  I urge everyone to contact the Governor to let her know how important it is that she sign and vigorously enforce HB2280:
