It sustained an airplane running into it in its day, without collapse. Since the Twin Towers (and the all-important WTC7, don't forget) were collapsed by the same regime, it is natural that EMPIRE STATE be the focus of what remains standing. (See 9/11 Mysteries: Demolitions dvd to more full appreciate the reality of the freefall speed, in footprint, with molten metal for long after -- all unattainable from a bit of jet fuel high up and collapse by weight alone.) I think they like to taunt us right in front of our own eyes.
