Freedom Generation Makes a Youthful Presence at the JBS 50th
by Mary Benoit,
Project Director for the American Opinion Foundation

A big hit at the JBS 50th Anniversary Celebration, Freedom Generation sponsored a number of activities for the young people who attended the events. On Thursday afternoon several campers and staff braved the elements and attempted a volleyball game in the back lawn of the hotel where the anniversary event was located. Dozens enjoyed Friday night's Freedom Generation campfire that took place after Dr. Chuck Baldwin delivered his remarks following a delicious traditional Wisconsin fish boil. And on Saturday, former campers and staff took advantage of the Freedom Generation pool party located in the hotel’s pool area.

Before the close of the first day of events, FreedomGen.com users met in person for the first time. A handful of dedicated young people who attended the full weekend of events volunteered a considerable amount of time working at the American Opinion Foundation/Freedom Generation booth and shared information about Freedom Generation summer camps with many people. While at the booth, our staff handed out the popular “S’more to Go” capsule that was so popular at the homeschool conventions Freedom Generation attended in the beginning of the year.

Young people also participated in a number of workshops throughout the weekend. Some of the workshops that received the most positive reviews by the teenagers were the reenactment of Patrick Henry, presented by Dr. Lance Hurley, and Mr. Hid Welch’s account of his father, Robert Welch, which was titled “Growing up With Dad.”

American Opinion Foundation was able to share information about our current and future plans to expand our youth program in two panel discussions offered throughout the weekend. Miss Sarah Sankovich shared a very inspiring testimonial about her experience at Freedom Generation summer camps during the Saturday panel discussion which was heard by a standing-room-only crowd.

Freedom Generation was proud to be a part of The John Birch Society’s 50th Anniversary celebration and wishes them another 50 successful years in the fight to preserve our freedom.
