I don't know if this is as funny as it is sad.
Something tells me everyone here would have bought it!!!

While the video is funny, I'm not sure if the people portrayed are uninformed and foolish or, more likely,  just informed and wary. This is all kind of like buying watches from a street vendor in NYC. It's the people who MAKE the purchase that you've got to wonder about.


I would not have bought it for $50, either. Not unless I had a chance to examine and verify the authenticity of the coin. This is because:
1. I DO know the value of gold.
2. I have been a coin collector and know their are fakes, counterfeits, and altered coins.
3. I've seen the ads on TV and magazines hyping "gold" coins for a fraction of the price when they really are nothing more than some cheap base metal plated with gold.
4. I've lived long enough to recognize that if something seems to be too good to be true, it probably isn't true.

I'm not about to pay $20 for a non-monetary $50 Angolan commemorative strike containing 10 cents worth of copper, 8 cents worth of nickel, and 39 cents worth of gold plating.
