Robert Welch's speech on socialized medicineHere is the classic Robert Welch address, "Medicine Leads the Way," in which the founder of The John Birch Society provides the historical context for the premier importance of socializing medicine in the schemes of progressives, socialists, and communists to socialize national economies. The following is an introduction to Welch's address by JBS CEO Art Thompson from earlier this year:

“Medicine Leads the Way” is an address by Robert Welch, founder of The John Birch Society, before the section on General Practice of the Los Angeles County Medical Association in the 1960s. It outlines the history of the moves to install compulsory healthcare on the populations of Europe and America. It documents a hidden agenda behind the humanitarian facade of providing healthcare for citizens. Some nuances in the progression towards socialized medicine have changed since the speech was delivered. But they do not affect the overall message. In addition, since the destruction of the various intelligence agencies in the Senate and House of Representatives, we no longer have the capability to identify contemporary American socialist personalities. Sadly, the American Medical Association and the American Bar Association are no longer the bulwarks against socialized medicine as they were in the 1960s. Within the message is also a very important segment on the use of the desire of the people for security — for government to offer security as a means to ultimately control their own citizens.
