New Healthcare Czar Fuels Repeal ObamaCare Drive

altYesterday President Obama announced the recess appointment of Dr. Donald Berwick to be the new Administrator of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services within the Department of Health and Human Services.

This new healthcare czar will play a very important role in the implementation of the new ObamaCare law. Which explains why Obama chose to elevate Berwick to this new post without going through the usual Senate confirmation process, and also why he waited so long to make this move. This way there was no public hearing of Berwick’s nomination during the prolonged and contentious national debate over passage of the ObamaCare.

One doesn’t have to look very far to see why Berwick’s appointment has been kept out of the public limelight. Just view this two-minute video of Berwick from 2008 speaking to a British audience about why he favors government-run healthcare.

Toward the end of this video, Berwick states emphatically:

Any healthcare funding plan that is just, equitable, civilized, and humane must, must redistribute wealth from the richer among us to the poorer and the less fortunate. Excellent healthcare is by definition redistributional.

Throughout the video Berwick sings the praises of the UK’s government-run National Health Service and trashes the lingering free-market aspects of our American healthcare system. He’s also not bashful about government rationing of healthcare:

The decision is not whether or not we will ration care —- the decision is whether we will ration with our eyes open. And right now, we are doing it blindly.

Remember that Berwick is the new head of the federal healthcare agency that manages both Medicare and Medicaid. He will preside over an agency that disburses over $800 billion worth of benefits each year. He will also preside over just how that $500 billion cut in Medicare, which was required to keep the cost of ObamaCare under $1 trillion, will be accomplished over the next ten years. Therefore, what Berwick believes about rationing and wealth redistribution will surely influence his policy decisions affecting the medical care of tens of millions of Americans.

Furthermore, David N. O'Steen, executive director of the National Right to Life has predicted:

Donald Berwick is a one-man death panel. While Americans may not remember the agency he heads, he will quickly become known as Obama's rationing czar.

The good news about Obama’s recess appointment of Dr. Berwick is that it will help fuel the already massive grassroots movements for state nullification and congressional repeal of ObamaCare.

You can start right now to help get the ball rolling for nullification of the entire ObamaCare law in your state legislature in 2011 by reading ”Nullify ObamaCare in Your State With This Model Health Care Nullification Act,” then using the link within the article for easy emailing to your state legislators, governor, lt. governor, and attorney general.

You can also start right now to help bring about congressional repeal of the entire ObamaCare law. Ultimate repeal of ObamaCare could take until 2013 to accomplish; however we must keep the pressure on our representatives and senators every step of the way to keep this issue alive and help bring about a majority in Congress who will repeal ObamaCare entirely.

The best way to support repeal today is to get behind Rep. Steve King’s (R-Iowa) drive to get 218 signatures on a discharge petition to force a vote in the House on his H.R. 4972, which would repeal the entire ObamaCare law. In just a couple weeks King has gotten 109 signatures, including the support of the GOP leadership in the House. Click here to learn more and to send an email to your representative.

Don’t hold back from supporting this discharge petition initiative just because you don’t think a repeal vote will pass in the present Congress. This whole process of getting signatures on the discharge petition and possibly bringing about a repeal vote in the House will serve to force incumbents of both parties take a public stand regarding repeal, which will make it easier for repeal-minded voters to decide on who to keep and who to replace in this fall’s elections.
