When Dan Cathy, CEO of the fabulously successful fast-food chain Chick-fil-A, told Online Baptist Press that he supports the “traditional” family, he ignited a firestorm of controversy. For this, he was vilified by left-leaning ideologues, including the mayors of several of America’s largest cities.
The Louisiana state teachers' union sent letters to private schools participating in the state's school choice program threatening them with lawsuits if they do not withdraw from the program while the union challenges it in court.
As concerns over the U.S. dollar and the Federal Reserve continue to grow, U.S. lawmakers explored sound money, competing currencies, and the route to monetary freedom during an August 2 hearing chaired by Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas). It was the final House Domestic Monetary Policy Subcommittee hearing led by the long-time champion of honest currency and reining in the controversial Fed, but analysts say the impact of Rep. Paul’s work is only just starting to be felt.
The United States' continued use of drones to kill suspected militants in countries such as Pakistan, Yemen, and Somalia is causing increased anti-U.S. sentiment in those countries. At a conference of top Pakistani and American officials in Aspen, Colorado, Sherry Rehman, Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, criticized the Central Intelligence Agency’s drone warfare in Pakistan, describing it as having reached the point of “diminishing returns” and contributing to the growing anti-American sentiment in the country.
On Thursday, Democrats in the Senate blocked an attempt by Republicans to enforce a provision of a 1980s law requiring all contractors doing business with the federal government to send out notices of potential layoffs four days before the presidential election in November. By a vote of 17-13 the Senate Appropriations Committee voted against an amendment offered by Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) that would have overridden a policy directive issued earlier this week by the Labor Department informing federal contractors that they may ignore the law and not send out preemptive pink slips to their employees.
Liberals are no strangers to using children to relate political messages, as the 2008 videos of kids singing for and paying homage to Obama prove. And conservatives certainly complained — about brainwashing and using children. Yet I don’t remember any of them wishing that they could snuff the life out of the youngsters. Heck, I can’t even recall any who wished death upon the adults manipulating the kids. That’s a brand of bloodthirsty rage confined, seemingly, to the Left.
Mitt Romney and possible running mate Marco Rubio disagree on a few points with regard to Syria, particularly in regard to arming the rebel forces, but both men believe America should look to the UN for cues on Syrian policy.
One of the reasons why we know so much about Humanistic Psychology today is because of the defection of one of its major practitioners, Dr. William Coulson, a former colleague of Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow. He testified how fraudulent the Encounter Movement was as science and how destructive it was in practice.
Priests for Life, a Catholic organization that has been on the front lines of the pro-life cause for the past 20 years, announced August 1 that it will not comply with the Health and Human Services (HHS) contraception mandate which went into effect on that date. The mandate, which is already the target of over a score of lawsuits filed by nearly 60 faith-based organizations, requires that all non-church employers provide their employees with health insurance that includes free access to sterilization and contraception — including abortion-inducing drugs.
By a bipartisan vote, the House joined the Senate in passing a bill that removes the "advice and consent" requirement from many presidential appointments.
