Pro-life leaders are concerned over a new pre-natal test researchers say will allow doctors to screen a pre-born baby for thousands of potential genetic defects.
Washington State’s high-profile same-sex marriage law, aggressively pursued and signed into law by Governor Christine Gregoire in February, has been blocked from going into effect after proponents of traditional marriage delivered more than 200,000 petition signatures demanding that state voters be allowed to make the final decision on the definition of marriage. The Seattle Times reported that Preserve Marriage Washington, the group leading the campaign, submitted more than 241,000 signatures to the Secretary of State’s Office June 6, double the 120,577 needed to put the issue before voters in November.
By now we’ve had about 40 years of death education in the public schools, and the subject has metastasized throughout the entire curriculum as the National Education Association has played an active role in promoting it.
Louisiana confirmed its reputation as America’s most pro-life state June 7 as Governor Bobby Jindal signed two bills into law that will further protect unborn babies and their mothers. “These new laws will help us foster a greater culture of life in Louisiana and ensure that we continue to protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us,” said the governor upon signing S.B. 330 and S.B. 708, known as the Hear the Heartbeat Act.
Two recent polls show that Americans support Arizona’s tough immigration law that the Obama administration is trying to overturn in the U.S. Supreme Court. The CNN and CBS/New York Times surveys both show that most Americans clearly don’t think the law is racist and believe the states should play a role in enforcing immigration law.
As governments and dictators around the world prepare for the upcoming “Rio+20” United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development, the establishment press is hyping — rather than questioning — a dubious new UN report claiming that humanity’s failure to adopt so-called “sustainability” schemes threatens the Earth. Among the global entity’s controversial recommendations: less people, less consumption, “lifestyle modifications,” and a “shift” toward new “equity-based values.”
In terminating the Gravity and Extreme Magnetism Small Explorer (GEMS) project, an X-ray telescope mission that was launched to study black holes and various space-time theories, NASA has left taxpayers with a bill worth $43.5 million. The program’s overall price tag was initially marked at $119 million (not including the rocket that was to be launched into orbit), but the space agency has already doled out tens of millions of dollars, and the project was 20 to 30 percent over budget, according to briefing charts received by SpaceNews.com.
Tens of thousands of Christian and pro-life activists gathered in over 160 cities across America on June 8 to take a public stand against President Obama’s impending contraception mandate that would require employers to include free contraception in the health insurance they provide their employees. Such contraception would include abortion-causing drugs such as RU-486, referred to by pro-life activists as the “abortion pill.” Religious leaders have expressed alarm that the mandate would apply not only to secular businesses, but also to Christian institutions and non-profits, as well as to Christian business owners who are morally opposed to birth control and abortion.
Democrats and Republicans do have certain similarities, but are they really the same? Well, to believe so is like thinking that Mother Teresa and Mullah Omar are the same because they're both religious.
Lest there was any lingering doubt, the federal judge who enjoined enforcement of the indefinite detention provisions of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) told the Obama Administration that it may not legally detain an American indefinitely based on a suspicion of support of terrorism unless the government can demonstrate a connection to the attacks of September 11, 2001. In a memorandum clarifying her ruling from May 16, Judge Katherine B. Forrest of the Southern District of New York reaffirmed her earlier opinion stating plainly that her earlier order stands and that the objections raised by the government in its request for a reconsideration were not valid.
