After conferring with the city’s business administrator, Scranton, Pennsylvania, Mayor Chris Doherty announced on Wednesday, June 27, that all 398 city employees would be getting minimum wage, starting with their next paycheck. Doherty said the city doesn’t have the money to pay everyone their full salary: "I’m trying to do the best I can with the limited amount of funds that I have. I want the employees to get paid. Our people work hard…I just don’t have enough money, and I can’t print it in the basement."
Despite violence that left at least several dead, numerous gun battles, allegations of voter fraud, dozens of polling places unable to operate, mass protests, militias running wild, and whole regions still in chaos, Western governments and the United Nations — largely responsible for the recent “regime change” that killed dictator Moammar Gadhafi and thousands of innocent civilians — celebrated political elections in Libya July 7 as a success. Meanwhile, multiple armed factions are still threatening to unleash full-blown civil war amid ongoing battles all across the chaos-stricken nation.
Aside from the fairly transparent United Nations agenda, the UN Rio+20 Conference on Sustainable Development offered a great deal of insight into the forces working together against national sovereignty, private property, individual liberty, and economic freedom. Big business was there — mostly begging for more government control and taxpayer money. A wide assortment of tax-funded “non-governmental organizations” — known as NGOs for short — was there, too. Unsurprisingly, they mostly demanded more government control. The press was there cheerleading every step of the way.
Notoriously homosexual congressman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) “married” his longtime partner Jim Ready in a public ceremony officiated by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick. Major media organs like the New York Times and the Washington Post used the high-profile event as an opportunity to demonstrate their acceptance of homosexual marriage as a domestic celebration worthy of their society pages.

Contrary to President Obama's claims, laying off public-school teachers won't hurt educational outcomes or the economy; in fact, it will do just the opposite says the free market Cato Institute’s Andrew Coulson.
Telecommunications giant Verizon filed a brief that the FCC is overreaching, again, in its quest to regulate the Internet
Cellphone carriers report an increase in the number of law enforcement requests for user information. The Air Force is training drone pilots by having them follow civilian cars.
Less than two weeks after becoming the first sitting cabinet member in American history to be held in contempt of Congress, disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder spoke in front of the highly controversial National Council of La Raza — it means “The Race” in Spanish — and issued threats against ongoing state and local efforts to control illegal immigration or enforce voter-ID requirements. He also touted an administration effort to stop deportations while promising to keep working with President Obama to pass the “Dream Act” and secure amnesty for illegal immigrants.
The Wall Street Journal lit into the Mitt Romney and his campaign on its editorial page last week, describing the presumptive Republican presidential nominee as timid and overly cautious, and his campaign as looking "confused in addition to being politically dumb."
