The John Birch Society
At a town hall meeting in Palm City, Florida, on April 10, Tea Party favorite Representative Allen West (R-Fla.) informed the audience that there are Communists in Congress. In response to the question “What percentage of the American legislature do you think are card carrying Marxists, Internationalists, or Socialists?”
Arizona Governor Jan Brewer signed legislation April 12 that bans most abortions in that state after the 20th week of pregnancy. In signing the Women’s Health and Safety Act, the pro-life governor said that the new measure “strengthens Arizona’s laws protecting the health and safety of women, and recognizes the precious life of the pre-born baby.”
Arghhh! It just happened again. No, I’m not referring to the billions of dollars hard-working taxpayers will have to send to Uncle Sam by April 17. (We get an extra two days to file a return this year, thanks to the 15th falling on a Sunday and the 16th being a holiday in Washington, D.C..)
The government doled out more than $200,000 in 2010 to "translocate" a bush that was blocking the path of San Francisco’s $1.05-billion highway project — partially funded by President Obama’s 2009 economic stimulus law — adding to the laundry list of "shovel-ready" projects that resulted in a cesspool of taxpayer waste.
On Friday, April 13, apparent Republican front-runner Mitt Romney will address the national convention of the National Rifle Association (NRA) in St. Louis where a nervous audience will seek “reassurance” on his stand on the Second Amendment. Said NRA spokesman Andrew Arulanandam, “I think what the members are looking for is reassurance. I think they are looking for a statement of support for the Second Amendment from Gov. Romney and we are confident that is what we will get.” Words of such support from Romney may be enough to persuade doubters to vote from him if he gets the Republican Party’s nomination.
"A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts." — Washington Irving
The Department of Homeland Security has announced that it will be creating an “environmental justice” unit that will be overseeing environmental regulations, alongside local governments. The unit’s role of enforcing environmental regulations has prompted critics to refer to the new department as the “green police.”
After inexplicably allowing it to languish on his desk for over a month, Virginia Governor Bob McDonnell has finally joined the fight against the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) by agreeing to sign the bill prohibiting Virginia’s military or law enforcement from assisting in the detention of American citizens.
Prosecutors in the case against George Zimmerman charged him with second-degree murder in the shooting of Trayvon Martin and released an affidavit explaining the grounds for their charges. The evidence presented thus far doesn’t quite square with facts of the case, but that aside, legal experts told media outlets that prosecutors will have a tough time convicting Zimmerman of murder.
Vice President Joe Biden Thursday repeated one of the controversial statements he made in the 2008 campaign. Speaking in Exeter, New Hampshire, Biden said it is patriotic for rich people to pay more in taxes than they do now, and the wealthy know it.
