The John Birch Society
President Obama hosted Mexican President Felipe Calderón and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper in Washington, D.C., this week for the so-called “North American Leaders Summit,” announcing further integration of the three governments across a broad range of fields. The meeting, however, fueled deep suspicion and concern among advocates of national sovereignty and the U.S. Constitution.
On Friday the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights agreed to consider the case of an Algerian man presently detained at the American prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.  Djamel Ameziane has been imprisoned at the infamous detention facility for over a decade without being apprised of the charges against him and without appearing a single time before a judge or magistrate.
Although about two million families are homeschooling their kids, most American parents still send their children to a public school. Few parents, however, know much of what goes on in their child’s school. In most cases they assume that their child’s school is not much different from the school they attended. And since they believe that the school is being run by “professional” educators, they are willing to accept whatever the school prescribes.
Although we all know that death is inevitable, we are still seldom fully prepared for the death of someone who has been important in our lives. So it was with the recent death of Dr. Marie D. Gadsden, at the age of 92.
President Obama, commenting on the judicial review being undertaken by the Supreme Court on his premier signature legislation, ObamaCare, challenged the court to uphold his law or be considered “activists” legislating from the bench. Said the President:
New York City Comptroller John Liu’s multiplying political misfortunes may prove to be a serendipitous blessing for America. According to reports from various New York media outlets — most of which, until recently, were singing his praises — additional arrests and indictments of Liu’s donors and campaign staff may be coming soon. As reported previously in The New American, Liu has suffered a series of stinging blows, with his top campaign financiers being arrested for funneling illegal cash into Liu’s coffers through fraudulent “straw donors.”
A Pakistani court convicted three of Osama bin Laden’s surviving wives and two of his daughters of being illegally present in the country. According to the sentences handed down on Monday, the five women will serve a 45-day prison sentence with credit for time served, after whch they will likely be deported.
In a just world, Charles Goyette would sit atop the radio broadcasting industry as one of our most preeminent political radio personalities, where Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, or Mark Levin would be fetching him coffee and the latest issue of The New American (TNA) magazine.
The Occupy Wall Street demonstrators may have lost some of their headline cachet over the past few months, but they are aiming to reclaim the limelight with a revitalized “Occupy Spring” campaign, with special emphasis on a major May Day offensive on May 1 that includes calls for a “general strike” nationwide.
Following a scathing exposé that uncovered details on a lavish government conference in Las Vegas, the head of the General Services Administration (GSA) resigned, while two top deputies were fired and four managers were placed on administrative leave. GSA chief Martha Johnson admitted in her resignation letter to a "significant misstep" at the federal agency — which handles real estate for the government — and as a result, she acknowledged, "taxpayer dollars were squandered."
