Lawmakers in Virginia and Oklahoma approved “personhood” legislation last week to recognize that human life begins at conception, drawing praise from pro-life activists and fury from abortion advocates. Analysts say neither of the bills would immediately ban abortions, but a prohibition would kick in if and when the Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade ruling is undone.
In concluding his three-state, three-day tour on Friday, President Obama made a flashy appearance at Boeing’s aircraft assembly plant in Washington State, where he touted the manufacturing accomplishments of the world’s largest aerospace company. Under the guise of environmentalism, various federal agencies and departments are blocking Border Patrol agents’ access to critical areas while contributing to widespread lawlessness along the U.S. border, according to experts. Criminals, meanwhile, are taking full advantage of the rapidly deteriorating situation.
On Thursday, the presiding judge in the military tribunal of Guantánamo Bay detainee Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri denied the request made by al-Nashiri’s counsel to issue a subpoena to Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh. “We didn’t have government-run schools for a long time in this country, for the majority of the time in this country,” Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum said during a Valentine’s Day campaign stop in Idaho. “We had private education. We had local education. Parents actually controlled the education of their children. What a great idea that is.”
