With the unprecedented $700 billion bailout bill, the extraordinary interventions by the Treasury Department and Federal Reserve to nationalize leading institutions in our financial sector, and the prospect of ever larger federal budget deficits due to the expected passage of new government entitlement programs in the next Congress, we can expect the continued rapid expansion of our money supply and as a consequence the continued rapid increase in the price of just about everything.

What an excellent time to educate our fellow Americans about the nature of money and inflation, and the connection between freedom, prosperity, and sound money! We're calling this campaign "Restore Our Freedom and Prosperity by Restoring Sound Money."

We strongly recommend that our JBS chapters and JBS.org Meetup groups begin holding educational meetings on the topics of inflation, deficit spending, the Federal Reserve, and sound money. Many of you have already been doing this. Now we need a whole lot more of this educational activity. We'll keep adding items to this list, such as a model state resolution and other items yet to be developed.

To get yourself in the proper frame of mind for this campaign, I suggest you take a look at this recently released video of Robert Welch speaking in 1974 ("JBS Founder Robert Welch in 1974: Forerunner of Ron Paul?") about what needs to done to preserve our freedom:

As you know, we are long overdue to accomplish the five steps [(1) restore complete independence of the United States; (2) return to a gold-backed currency; (3) reduce the size of the federal government by 50%; (4) withdraw American troops everywhere except for congressional declarations of war; and (5) get government out of the areas not authorized by the U.S. Constitution] outlined in this video by Mr. Welch in 1974. However, there is some comfort in realizing that our job was already laid out in such simple, but convincing terms 34 years ago. Now that everything that Robert Welch was predicting in 1958 (see first half of above video) is coming true, we need to apply our creativity and energy to getting the educational and organizational job done in a couple hundred congressional districts around the nation.

We need to conceive of our task in broad terms. As I wrote in the JBS.org Freedom Campaign column in the November JBS Bulletin, "[O]ur members in Chapters and Meetups under the guidance of our staff must use a whole host of strategies and tools to recruit at least a few hundred members in each of a couple hundred congressional districts, which would provide the grassroots pressure for changing the political climate in these districts sufficiently to ensure the nomination and election of constitutionalist representatives to Congress. There is no easy way!"

So, a good first step is to set up educational meetings about "restoring our freedom and prosperity by restoring sound money." However, you, along with all the rest of us, need to think and act expansively enough to parlay this modest educational beginning into a movement that really will create that political climate that will ensure the election of large numbers of constitutionalists to Congress.
