Ron Paul's Commentary: "Something Big Is Happening"

I managed to miss Ron Paul's recent article, "Something Big Is Going On," which was first published in his blog on July 2 on his Campaign for Liberty website. A week later the article was renamed "Something Big Is Happening," and was published as a speech in the House and entered into the Congressional Record.

Since for many years now Rep. Paul has been correctly predicting the current financial crisis, it is very useful to read his recommendations for what our nation's leaders should do to restore our freedom and prosperity with the least economic disruption of our lives. Of course, the worst is yet to come.

Here are couple quotes to give you the flavor of Ron Paul's article:

Madam Speaker, I have, for the past 35 years, expressed my grave concern for the future of America . The course we have taken over the past century has threatened our liberties, security and prosperity. In spite of these long-held concerns, I have days--growing more frequent all the time--when I'm convinced the time is now upon us that some Big Events are about to occur. These fast-approaching events will not go unnoticed. They will affect all of us. They will not be limited to just some areas of our country. The world economy and political system will share in the chaos about to be unleashed....

Restoring a free society doesn't eliminate the need to get our house in order and to pay for the extravagant spending. But the pain would not be long-lasting if we did the right things, and best of all the empire would have to end for financial reasons. Our wars would stop, the attack on civil liberties would cease, and prosperity would return. The choices are clear: it shouldn't be difficult, but the big event now unfolding gives us a great opportunity to reverse the tide and resume the truly great American Revolution started in 1776. Opportunity  knocks in spite of the urgency and the dangers we face.

Let's make “Something Big Is Happening” be the discovery that freedom works and is popular and the big economic and political event we're witnessing is a blessing in disguise.

The Austrian Economic message is fantastic. However, it is also useless. The electorate installs the politicians that make up the government bosses. Until the electorate makes better choices, we will be in trouble. The electorate is blind and those of us who want to help solve the problem have been rendered impotent. Instead of limiting our discussion to idealism, we need to discuss what can be done to enlighten the electorate.

I don't think the Austrian Economic message can be judged as 'useless', and your statement seems to be a non sequitur. You may as well call Jungian or Freudian psychology, or weather pattern modeling, "idealism".

'Society’s course will be changed only by a change in ideas. First you must reach the intellectuals, the teachers and writers, with reasoned argument. It will be their influence on society which will prevail, and the politicians will follow.' -Hayek

‘The ideas of economists and political philosophers, both when they are right and when they are wrong, are more powerful than is commonly understood. Indeed the world is ruled by little else. Practical men, who believe themselves to be quite exempt from any intellectual influences, are usually the slaves of some defunct economist.’ -Keynes

Our nation today pays $1.2 Billion a day interest on borrowed money from the real terrorists bankers that win from any war we engage in. They care less who's winning or lossing as long as the debt keeps increasing they win. I learned that from Andrew Jackson. Remember he paid off the debt in 1835. Clear down to Zero. He understood their intentions then. Here we are just as predicted. In debt up to our ears. Thanks for the lesson

Of course America is blind. When will people learn that the most dangerous thing that ever happened to this country was education decided by and planned by our rulers. "Public Education" is the scourge of our nation and will be our downfall. Never has the fox so thoroughly convinced the hens that he is needed to guard the house.

If you really want to start saving our country, the first thing you have to save is our children and they must be taken out of the strangling arms of the State.

Also, make sure to fight any attempt to regulate the Net. This is the only vehicle we have to spread truth. Get ready for a major change. (And it won't be good.) Think things are bad now, just wait until this insane Congress sends a nuke to Iran and gas hits 6.00 or higher. Forget about being able to fill the tank, you won't be able to buy a gallon of milk.

Please, everyone who reads this send an email to every friend you have and ask them to call their Congressman and demand that they not incinerate an entire country. We seem to have forgotten that we don't drop nukes for a reason - it is pure evil. Please folks, beg for common sense to prevail. The last thing you want is a nuclear holocaust. It is amazing that I even have to write that.

(P.S. We don't have leaders we have rulers. Replace the word leader with ruler every time you hear it or use it and you will be on the road to more accurate thinking.)

I have Ludwig Von Mises "Human Action" and "Between The Two Wars" from Hillsdale and The Foundation for Economic Education. My late father was twice winner of the prestigious National Association of Manufacturers' top awards and a Valley Forge Freedoms Foundation Award - he deserved a Nobel in Economics for his stand for capitalism and not socialism or communism. Dad was well known at FEE and so was Robert Welch!

Add to this that CFR "pastor" Rick Warren is hosting the two major candidates, and the confusion continues.

.I wonder where common sense has gone?PRIOR to what is refered to as the generation of the "BABY BOOMERS " IT seemed as though all of the generations before the baby boomers,Were Short on education, because many of them had to drop out of school,to help on the FARM or to help the family to survive the depression years, then world war 2.but these people, though short on book knowledge were chock full of common sense, almost always when ask a question, had a good common sense answer, but then came the baby boomers.GOD BLESS THEM. And the philosophy changed.
"My children are going to get an EDUCATION"-They are not going to have it as bad as I did, when I was a kid!lol, really?.IS THAT TRUE??how many more generations, do we need on alcohol, drugs, etc, aborted babies, college rapes, etc:

I firmly believe that we are no longer in control of our destiny in any way. There have been forces unseen working for fifty years to undermine our liberty, understanding, and freedom. I am at a loss to know how you would fight against this power when it controls the military, the government, the police, the money, and the media.
I'm sure there are still dedicated people in government and the media who would act if they knew how. With all the secret societies, The Bilderburgers, Skull and Bonesmen, Freemasons, and the rest, how would anyone or any group bring about justice or our constitutional freedoms back as the true rule of law?

The Insiders you speak of with their little clubs for conspirators want you to believe that they are omniscient and omnipotent. But they are not. They have not been able to undermine the Constitution yet and as long as it remains the law of the land, citizens have the ability to roll back the growing total state by electing and working with their representatives in Congress. The reason we fail to achieve that today is a combination of intellectual laziness and moral apathy on the part of the majority of the citizenry. If that can be changed, and the citizens awakened, informed, and activated, the Insiders would be made impotent and irrelevant and we could quickly return to the limited government that the Founders intended.

I found this interesting article amongst others on http://www.unitedliberty.org - Market Watch is reporting that on Friday, Federal & State (Kansas) regulators shut down the 9th bank so far this year. The Columbian Bank and Trust Company was partially sold to Citizen’s Bank and will reopen Monday under that name with an influx of capital provided by the FDIC. The bailout provided by the FDIC will deplete that agency’s $49 billion reserves by $60 million - a minescule amount on the surface, but with repeated failures hitting the agency, requiring it to prop up failed banks, one has to ask how long the agency can sustain this practice with its current reserves. The FDIC lays it out in black and white on its website - the Great Depression era agency insures over $3 trillion in deposits, yet only $49 billion in reserves, a reserve ratio of a minescule 1.6%.

I agree and disagree with your assumption that we have the power to make a difference by our vote. How can we make a difference in our leaders, when the votes are already pre-determined by the CFR, Tri-lateral, etc...... who will be the leaders of this Nation?

I am never going to stop voting my conscience, but the truth is, I dont believe that we have any power to determine who will be President any more. I live here in AZ and I can tell you, I have no idea how Napalitano keeps winning in this state...the only explanation is rigged voting machines.

I do agree that the PTB do want us to believe that they are in total control, but they cannot control how we think and feel if we are educated...and they know that! Thus, the reason we do need to keep educating the people so when the NWO order is being forced upon us, We the People, will not tolerate it and they will not be able to just have their way, which is their hope.

The last several generations have allowed our Constitution to become dirty toilet paper.

The idea of democracy may have seemed good when implemented, but men were a lot more intelligent back then and less concerned with their income or creature comforts. Also, they didn't have a thousand different special interests to "care" about and degrade their manhood.

Americans have been reduced to complacent cowards. Unwilling to feed the withered Tree of Liberty, WE have allowed our country (like our Constitution) to be flushed away, into some "We are the World" cesspool.

Power cannot be reasoned with. Especially when it's being wielded by the corrupt. The only way to remove the traitorous cancers now controlling our lives, is with the scalpel of REBELLION!

Barack Hussein Obama for President, certainly not. He's a noncitizen of our country. His mother took him to Indonesia and made him a citizen there. (indonesia does not allow for dual citizenship). He's not elligible to be president.

If we conservatives vote for a third party candidate, Obama might wound up winning the election. Then, we would be in deep trouble. We must rally behind McCain and Palin.

God Bless America

Ron Paul may be a lone voice in the Wilderness, Ron Paul may be a prophet....it all really doesnt matter.

No matter what common sense leaders say or try to overcome, the juggernaut of madness seems to go forward relentlessly. The Country started to go off the rails after Kennedy's assassination. And its been one stupid thing after another by elected officials ever since.

Whats amazing to me is how long it takes to kill a great country even when our incompetent leadership is hellbent on doing it.

I dont think that anything can be done to change the outcome now as too much damage has accumulated over too many incompetent regimes to ever make America whole.

The very sad part of all this is that the carpetbaggers are going to get away with their ill-gotten gain and never, ever be punished for what they did to America.
America being judged by GOD himself...take it or leave it. We arrived around 1613 and 2013 will be 400 years. Just look at America's judgment as we close our captivity. The timing is spectacular, although I doubt if we'll get 5 years before the end of America.

Where has Austrian economics proved successful...which countries?

Why are countries like Russia, China, Venezuela, Brazil, the so-called enemies or non-cooperative countries, succeeding econimically while the US is declining economically for the past 20 years?

Why is Ron Paul, without a doubt in my mind the most intelligent politician in congress for the past 25 years, only getting 5% of the vote wherever and whenever he competes on a national level?
