Top 10 Inconvenient Truths of 2007

To end the year right, we offer a list with something inconvenient for everyone.

#10 Al Gore’s Nobel Prize-garnering movie on global warming was produced without scientific review or oversight. No recognized scientists appear as direct contributors to the film and no scientific advisors are listed in the film credits. The "researchers" used in the making of the film possess previous professional experience no better than work on the movie Surf Girls, the reality TV show Sorority Life III and Russian State Television.

#9 By honest accounting standards the US federal government as well as many American households are bankrupt. To maintain our current standard of living, America borrows per official numbers upwards of $2 billion dollars a day from foreign sources.  Realistic numbers have been quoted as high as $4  to $7 billion dollars/day.  The sub-prime story is just the tip of the iceberg.  2008 will be a year of financial reckoning.

#8 Adultery has destroyed more families in America than homosexuality. While the faith-based community works to protect the sanctity of holy matrimony through laws and Constitutional amendments against homosexual marriage, the vast majority of pastors and churches in America continue to perform marriage ceremonies for adulterers. They may be free to do so legally, but Christian pastors who look the other way on adultery are clearly ignoring their own theology.

#7 Any border fence capable of keeping illegal immigrants out of the county will be equally effective in keeping legal citizens in the country. Building a fence at America’s borders should not be entrusted to a government that refuses to recognize our unalienable rights and the Constitution that defends them.

#6 The creation of our money out of thin air by the Federal Reserve is an immensely regressive tax. Those least able to afford the debasement our currency pay the greatest percentage of this hidden tax. Keynesian liberals who claim to be acting on behalf of the poor and underclass are simply shills for a system that is being used to rob the poor blind…for their own good.

#5 A gold standard is no more intrinsically good than a fiat system is intrinsically evil. The War for American Independence was fought and won using fiat currency. A mandated gold standard will not bring more freedom if the laws are such that a small oligarchy ends up in control of most of the gold people are forced to use as a medium of exchange. A voluntary gold standard is desirable but on its own it is no more useful than a constitution without a moral people to uphold it. The real solution is to enact laws that prevent debasement of the currency — whether that currency is gold, backed by gold, or is nothing more than money by fiat.

#4 The Patriots are not going to beat the Packers in the Super Bowl. The John Birch Society headquarters in Appleton, Wisconsin are located just an hour away from Lambeau Field. But, let us assure you that this in no way affected our judgment in determining the above to be an irrefutable truth; inconvenient as it may be for some.

#3 Global warming is population control repackaged. There are two components to the carbon footprint defined as carbon use/person. While global warming alarmists most publicly eager to promote reducing the carbon emissions use the  numerator in this ratio, they are equally committed to reducing the number of people who make the footprints in the denominator.

#2 A pre-emptive/aggressive war meets none of the requirements for a just war in Christian theology. There are no indications in the New Testament which suggest that the argument, “we're killing them over there, so we don’t have to kill them over here,” will pass as a defense on Judgment Day.

#1 (looking ahead a few weeks) Ron Paul may or may not win the GOP nomination for president. BUT… no matter the outcome, he will show up at the GOP convention with enough delegates who are actually his supporters that he will be able demonstrate conclusively that our current election process is only slightly less rigged than the one which was used to create the Iraqi National Congress. The broad-based freedom movement being galvanized by the Ron Paul presidential campaign will be capable of independently moving forward to restore liberty to America. The John Birch Society, its members and supporters will continue to stand up for Family and Freedom as front and center contributors in this epic undertaking.
