by James F. Fitzgerald, National Director of Field Activities As spring approaches, members of The John Birch Society should be planning for outdoor JBS displays at every opportunity. Many of our members in the Northeast have set up booths at street fairs and have had a high level of success in attracting new prospects. Most areas of the country have state and county fairs, even smaller community events, where individuals and groups can purchase space for an exhibit. We encourage all to take advantage of the opportunities presented. Wherever we can raise the level of visibility of the Society and its members, we inevitably attract new prospects and new members. The Birchers participating in these events have a high degree of success offering DVDs such as Overview of America and Dollars & $ense along with copies of The New American. The most popular TNA reprint to offer is the “Freedom Index.” A real eye-opener, prospects can immediately see the voting record of their representative and two senators. So let’s gear up for the spring and summer and have the country know that The John Birch Society possesses the members, materials, and leadership to preserve our country despite Washington’s determination to impose collectivism on our country and all Americans. Speakers Tour Starting in April, Society President John McManus will embark on a nationwide tour exposing the dangers of proposed amnesty legislation already introduced in both houses of Congress. H.R. 4321, entitled “Comprehensive Immigration Reform for America’s Security and Prosperity Act of 2009,” already has more than 90 House cosponsors. Note the reliance on the terms “Security and Prosperity” in its title. These are the same terms employed by President George W. Bush and his Mexican and Canadian counterparts as they began efforts to create the North American Union. This dangerous bill is essentially an amnesty proposal that, if enacted, would legalize 18-20 million aliens and provide education, housing, welfare, jobs, and medical services at the expense of hard-working Americans. Without doubt, one underlying intention of the sponsors is to have most if not all of these amnestied individuals become voters who will be led to choose socialist candidates for Congress and the Presidency. If passed, the bill will heavily impact an already fragile economic system, and could even lead to bankrupting the nation. In the Senate, several similar measures have been introduced, the major one being S. 9 authored by Senator Harry Reid (D-Nev.). Created “to strengthen the United States economy, provide for more effective border and employment enforcement, and for other purposes,” it has 13 cosponsors. Its purpose is similar to the House bill noted above. Each of these measures should be strongly opposed. All representatives and senators should be informed that opposition to these dangerous measures is expected. We strongly urge you to support the McManus speech program by bringing many concerned prospects to hear this vital message. His message will be delivered under the title, “Stealing the American Dream: How Illegal Immigration Affects You.” The JBS.org website and the monthly membership Bulletin will publish the schedule for these amnesty/immigration speeches along with locations and contact information. The March 29 issue of The New American will feature several articles related to the illegal immigration topic including one by John McManus. In this same issue, there will be an article about the dangerous rise of communism in Latin America where many countries have elected Marxist leaders, and an additional article will report on the incredible violence and death occurring in Mexico at the hands of drug traffickers. Many of these problems will move north into the United States if even one of the amnesty measures becomes law. ACTION SUMMARY
Contact your Representative and Senators to oppose any measure that will grant amnesty to illegal immigrants.
