The John Birch Society is headquartered in Appleton, Wis. at 770 N. Westhill Blvd, Appleton, WI 54914. Staff here handles the daily operations of the organization. Two buildings house the staff.
Members are locally organized into small chapters (usually less than 20 people). Each chapter has a volunteer leader. Chapters are then organized into sections (a minimum of 3 chapters). Each section has a Volunteer Section Leader. These volunteer leaders work closely with JBS Field Staff. Field Staff includes Coordinators that cover specific geographic locations, usually assigned to a state. Coordinators report to Regional Field Directors, who in turn report to the National Director of Field Activities.
These Field Staff members work directly with the membership to develop volunteer leaders. Members receive guidance on campaigns from the Field Staff and the monthly JBS Bulletin proposing coordinated action. Members are never asked to do anything that they do not agree with or might be uncomfortable doing.
A team of Development Officers are on the Field Staff directly working with donors. All staff are under the direction of the CEO.
While JBS is a not-for-profit corporation, the American Opinion Foundation is its 501(c) 3. Other entities under the JBS umbrella are The New American (news magazine), Liberty News Network (online video bureau), Campus Liberty Alliance (youth organization), and ShopJBS (JBS store).
