Pending Legislation - November 2008

Priority Level: H = High; M = Medium; L = Low; O = Ongoing

While the House and Senate will now be in adjournment, you can contact your reelected representative and Senators at their district offices, to get a head start on educating them for their participation in the 111th Congress. Please remember that when the new Congress convenes in January, all legislation must be reintroduced, often with bill numbers different from those cited below. We strongly recommend that you study The New American’s “Freedom Index” to evaluate how your returning representative and senators voted during the last Congress.

Please visit JBS.org and read the recommendations found under “Take Action!” for more current news. Be sure also to visit the JBS Legislative Action Center at http://capwiz.com/jbs/home/. You can also visit http://thomas.loc.gov to search for any bill in the 110th Congress.

Priority: H Support H.R. 2755*: The Abolition of the Federal Reserve System!
Congressman Ron Paul has introduced legislation to restore financial stability to America's economy by abolishing the Federal Reserve. In view of our nation’s financial crisis, this is certainly a matter worth of your representative’s attention! Abolishing the Fed would allow Congress to reassert its constitutional authority over monetary policy.

Priority: H Oppose S. 2433*, Obama's Bill for Hundreds of Billions of Dollars of UN-inspired Foreign Aid Spending!
S. 2433 would have required the United States to spend hundreds of billions of dollars of new United Nations-inspired foreign aid spending by 2015. Urge your representative and Senators to vote against any and all funding for the UN in the next Congress.

Priority: O Support H. Con. Res. 22* to Help Block the North American Union by Repealing NAFTA!
House Concurrent Resolution 22 expressed “the sense of Congress that the President should
provide notice of withdrawal of the United States from the North American Free Trade Agreement
(NAFTA).” Urge your representative and senators to support H. Con. Res. 22, to withdraw the U.S. from NAFTA.

Priority: O Support H. Con. Res. 40* to Stop the North American Union!
House Concurrent Resolution 40 expressed “that the United States should not engage in the construction of a North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) Superhighway System or enter into a North American Union with Mexico and Canada.” Urge your representative to support H. Con .Res. 40.

Priority: O Oppose H. R. 1964*/ S. 1173* the Freedom of Choice Act!
The House and Senate versions of the so-called Freedom of Choice Act sought to provide federal protection for Roe v Wade and other pro-abortion decisions, and attempted to stem “Incremental restrictions on the right to choose [abortion] imposed by Congress and State legislatures.” Similar legislation will likely be reintroduced in the 111th Congress. Urge your reelected and newly elected representative and senators to oppose any similar future assaults on the right to life.

*These bill numbers were assigned in the 110th Congress and may change if these are reintroduced in the 111th Congress.
