A previous blog has raised a very good question: Why does the TNA website carry video news content from the liberal media? The answer: perspective and opposition research. The New American aims to be the best place on the Net for people to find news and analysis published by an organization that does not intend to spin the news in order to promote a liberal agenda. But, TNA also wants readers to be aware of what the liberal media is actually saying. It does no good to take an insular approach where TNA is isolated from the rest of the world. In fact, that strategy is diametrically opposed to the purpose of The New American. Having the videos on the site allows readers to see the mainstream perspective on many of the stories TNA reports on, while also then being able to read the unique reporting and analysis that TNA alone provides. While the above describes the main reason for having that video content on the site, there is also another reason. For the person new to TNA/JBS, the videos on TNA provide an extra bit of viewing interest. The New American is a reach out tool, meant to bring the JBS/TNA message to a broad audience. If a new TNA reader is kept on the site a bit longer because they are watching a news video, maybe they then go on to read a few more articles on the site and maybe they then begin to form an appreciation for the unique content and perspective TNA provides. In short, providing these videos is not about becoming more like the neocons, but is all about providing an engaging experience for readers. |
