Czech President Blasts UN Climate Propaganda PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Czech President Vaclav Klaus on climate changeA new study has demonstrated that the number one cause of global warming is ecophilic bloviation. Given the opportunity to rally the world to embrace a return to the Stone Age, dull globalist bureaucrats who can normally barely fog a mirror are suddenly transformed and begin to adopt the polished wit and wisdom typified by the measured and insightful utterances of Moammar Gadhafi’s address to the UN. Even worse, publishing the combined vacuous offgassings of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon and various self-styled “world leaders” now threatens vast tracts of the rain forests of Brazil with deforestation — a catastrophe which was only exacerbated by the amanuenses of the moonbat media.

Okay, maybe all of that is a bit of an exaggeration, and maybe there’s no such study. But hey, where would any discussion of the environment be without overblown rhetoric and pseudo-science?

In the midst of the political performance art which is producing the next wave of environmental regulation, at least one leader — Czech President Vaclav Klaus — has the integrity to note that the emperor has gone au naturel. Reuters is reporting:

Czech President Vaclav Klaus sharply criticized a U.N. meeting on climate change on Tuesday at which U.S. President Barack Obama was among the top speakers, describing it as propagandistic and undignified.

"It was sad and it was frustrating," said Klaus, one of the world's most vocal skeptics on the topic of global warming.

"It's a propagandistic exercise where 13-year-old girls from some far-away country perform a pre-rehearsed poem," he said. "It's simply not dignified."

At the opening of the summit attended by nearly 100 world leaders, 13-year-old Yugratna Srivastava of India told the audience that governments were not doing enough to combat the threat of climate change.

Klaus said there were increasing doubts in the scientific community about whether humans are causing changes in the climate or whether the changes are simply naturally occurring phenomena.

But politicians, he said, seem to be moving closer to a consensus on climate change.

"The train can't be stopped and I consider that a huge mistake," Klaus said.

One might argue that being surprised by “propagandistic and undignified” behavior at any function associated with the UN is, well, painfully naive. Nevertheless, Klaus’ point is well taken. Americans are becoming used to watching children manipulated for political purposes; who hasn’t seen videos of school children singing the praises of the Leader? If the authors of the upcoming Copenhagen protocol have their way, we’re all going to have a lot more to worry about than silly songs and poetry.

If Klaus is right and the “train can’t be stopped” it is not because of the science, but because of the internationalist agenda. Even as the irrational scare tactics of the environmental fringe seem to leave reality further and further behind, the political elites move to “take action” in ways which are almost inconceivable in scope. As the drumbeat builds on the road to Copenhagen, listen for the refrain of the new eco-internationalist anthem: too much pollution, too many people, too much industry, too much consumption... Too much freedom.

What Mr. Obama and his friends at the UN need are a few more "Joe Wilson"-esque moments.
