Anita Dunn Hearts Mao PDF  | Print |  E-mail

Maos booksGlenn Beck, the popular and populist radio talk show and television host, presses on in his one-man crusade to expose the socialist and communist sympathizers who comprise President Barack Obama’s inner circle. The latest czar — as Beck calls those in this clique, which include Cass Sunstein, John Holdren, and Kevin Jennings — he has set his sights on is Anita Dunn, the White House Communications Director. She also happens to be married to Robert Bauer, attorney for the Obama Presidential campaign.

On his Fox News show, Beck featured a video clip of Dunn, speaking at the high school graduation of St. Andrews Episcopal School (which was held at Washington D.C.’s National Cathedral), cheerfully explaining that “her two favorite philosophers” were Mother Teresa and Mao Zedong — an odd couple if there was ever one.

I can understand inspiring an audience of American high school students with a vignette about the tiny nun who worked with the poor in Calcutta, but the Chairman?

Here’s what Miss Commencement Speaker had to say:

In 1947, when Mao Zedong was being challenged within his own party on his plan to basically take China over, Chiang Kai-shek and the Nationalist Chinese held the cities, they had the army, they had the air force, they had everything on their side. And people said, "How can you win? How can you do this? How can you do this against all of the odds against you?" And Mao Zedong said, you know, "You fight your war, and I'll fight mine." And think about that for a second.

Ok. I did, Anita. For a second. Here’s what I concluded: Drawing inspiration from one of the twentieth centuries’ most famous mass murderers is very weird. It’s like openly admitting you’re a fan of horrorcore hip hop music.

But that Anita … she’s a kidder. While Beck rightfully reminded viewers that Mao shot political opponents “in the head,” Jake Tapper, an ABC reporter, helpfully tweeted that Anita “was joking” when she used the reference.

Dunn herself told CNN, “The use of the phrase ‘political philosophers’ was intended as irony, but clearly the effort fell flat.”

Clearly.

But note that Dunn didn’t repudiate her Mao crush, nor could she trot out the ‘youthful indiscretion’ card, since the speech occurred earlier this year, and she is in the Middle Ages of her life.

And despite Media Matters for America, a left-wing watchdog group, complaining that Glenn Beck has put words in Dunn’s mouth by saying she “worships” and “idolizes” the author of the Little Red Book, she was busted.

What if Dunn had admitted that one of her favorite philosophers was Robert Welch, founder of the John Birch Society and a real political thinker? You don’t have to have much of an imagination to know that Anita Dunn probably wouldn’t have her plum White House job, today, or any day.

I guess what one rube, who lives in flyover country, like myself, can conclude from this episode is that it’s hip, in Obama’s White House, to be simpatico to Mao, Che, or Fidel.

As for Glenn Beck, he deserves an “attaboy” for trying to enlighten and entertain, as is the motto of his radio show.  Even though he’s been losing sponsors for his criticism of the Democrats-in-power, he’s been gaining scores of fans. Myself included.

May he continue to fight his war, while Anita fights hers. His is on behalf of American sovereignty and America’s liberty. God bless him.

As I've said many times before
The "liberal" left loves to lie, steal and spread confusion. They are a detestable bunch.

"Ordinary Guy" Morphs into Media Sensation
John Whitehead, the constitutional attorney, has written a very good column explaining
what makes Glenn Beck so watchable. Here's the link:

Use caution before placing Glenn Beck on a pedestal
If Beck is any indication of the future of television news, given his show's popularity and high ratings, we will most likely see an upswing in the amount of emotion and entertainment infused in news production at the expense of careful, objective, balanced and thoughtful analysis among journalistic sources.

But do most viewers want thoughtful analysis? Or do they want to be entertained?

--- taken from John Whitehead's essay, linked to in the previous comment.

While Glenn Beck should not be summarily dismissed (he says/writes a lot of good stuff), we as constitutional conservatives need to be careful not to take everything he says as fact. If we are to be credible, thoughtful analysis needs to be of foremost importance.
