CPAC, the JBS and Conservatism's Real Fringe PDF  | Print |  E-mail

CPACOne frequent news angle in stories regarding The John Birch Society's sponsorship of this week's ongoing CPAC conference has been the question of whether so-called “fringe groups” like The John Birch Society should be admitted to the conference. Neo-conservatives like David Horowitz, whose website called CPAC's acceptance of The John Birch Society a  “monumentally stupid decision,” has repeatedly fretted the sponsorship. Horowitz's view is to “Keep the Fringe on the Fringe.”

Other “fringe groups” that should be “purged,” according to some analysts, include “birthers” (those who dispute President Obama's U.S. birth) and “9/11 truthers” (those who claim that the U.S. government was somehow complicit in the September 11 attacks). Of course, despite the fact that the “birthers” and “truthers” pursue an erroneous train of thought, neither would bring government to a course of action that would pick citizens' pockets or violate the U.S. Constitution.

The same cannot be said for the neo-conservatives. Neo-conservatives like Horowitz unnecessarily cheer on expensive wars in the Middle East and attack the U.S. Constitution and it's Bill of Rights. That's the real fringe of the current conservative movement. Positions like Horowitz's have led some principled conservatives to boycott the conference altogether. Former Congressman Mickey Edwards explains that he wasn't going to CPAC because of neo-con attacks on the Bill of Rights:

Stop at CPAC today and you will find rooms full of ardent, zealous, fervent young men and women who believe the government should be allowed to torture (we condemned people at Nuremberg for doing that), who believe the government should be able to lock people up without charges and hold them indefinitely (something Henry VIII agreed was a proper exercise of government authority). Who believe the government should be able to read a citizen's mail and listen in on a citizen's phone calls, all without a warrant (the Constitution of course prohibits searches without a warrant, but nobody cares less about the Constitution than some of today's ersatz conservatives).

While none of what Edwards describes represents The John Birch Society's view (nor does it represent the view of all the groups and speakers at the conference), this was precisely the tone of many CPAC speakers Thursday and will be the tone of others as the conference progresses.

It also represents the views of David Horowitz's writers, who have opposed giving the jury trials (that the Sixth Amendment clearly requires) for detainees in the “war on terror.” Incidentally, many of those denied a trial turned out to be innocent, including those who had been tortured by U.S. interrogators with permanent blindness, genital mutilation, anal rape and even death.

This attitude by neo-conservatives explains the warm welcome former Vice President Dick Cheney got at the CPAC conference Thursday. Cheney, who had just finished an ABC-TV interview last weekend endorsing torture (in violation of the Eighth Amendment) once again, received such a warm round of applause from the CPAC crowd that he remarked: "A welcome like that almost makes me want to run for office.”

As far as the U.S. Constitution goes, Dick Cheney merits the label of “Sith Lord” that the left often used to satirize him.

But if erstwhile neo-conservative attendees can be prompted to dust off their long-neglected copy of the U.S. Constitution and read it, they might learn something. That's why The John Birch Society is there this week. The JBS is not seeking legitimacy for itself, but to bring CPAC attendees to a level of legitimacy and consistency with the U.S. Constitution.

One thing neo-conservatives might learn by cracking the binding on their copy of the U.S. Constitution is that the Fifth and Sixth Amendments guarantee that everyone in U.S. custody — even foreigners — a right to trial and due process of law, and that this right has been protected by the courts since at least the Amistad case in 1841:

Fifth Amendment: “No person shall ... be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law.”

Sixth Amendment: “In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed, which district shall have been previously ascertained by law, and to be informed of the nature and cause of the accusation; to be confronted with the witnesses against him; to have compulsory process for obtaining witnesses in his favor, and to have the Assistance of Counsel for his defence.

Note that the Bill of Rights is categorical on this issue; it makes no exceptions for foreigners, for military trials or during a time of war. “All” are entitled to a trial by jury, the same jury trial that Cheney and Bush spent seven years trying to deny detainees. Note also the Sixth Amendment requirement that trials must take place in courts “previously ascertained by law,” obviating any option for creation of a military commission at this late date to try detainees who have already been imprisoned for as long as nine years. While the Cheney/John Yoo wing of the neo-conservative movement would argue that detainees are under the “law of war,” what they really mean is “no law and no Constitution for anyone.” After all, it's not just foreigners that the Bush-Cheney regime imprisoned without trial, they imprisoned American citizens as well, fighting for the right to detain American citizens without charges all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court three times (see here, here and here).

CPAC is indeed a case of missionary work for constitutionalist organizations like The John Birch Society. Many conservatives are still stuck in the Dred Scott era, where some persons are legally “non-persons” and not entitled to rights. These conservatives implicitly reject the American Founders who asserted that God gave all men “unalienable rights.” If there's a purge to be made from the conservative movement, it shouldn't be the Birchers, birthers or truthers, but instead the wacky fringe that opposes the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Of course, it's better still to persuade them of their errors and grow a larger population who are informed supporters of the Constitution.

Light is always hated by darkness, both in the spiritual realm and the earthly realm.

Darkness (ignorance and lies) can only exist on the fringes... in the absence of light (truth).

Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter! - Isaiah 5:20

A prophet is not without honour, but in his own country, and among his own kin, and in his own house. - Mark 6:4

And they have rewarded me evil for good, and hatred for my love. - Psalm 109:5

Erroneous?

Wait a minute...' “birthers” and “truthers” pursue an erroneous train of thought' ???

Those who question Resident Soetoro's legitimacy are erroneous? Those who think that it is even possible that the government (this government...which has a long and sordid history of mass murder, torture, and tyranny) MIGHT be complicit in some small way to the attacks in 2001 are erroneous? Is this the position of the JBS?

JBS president more interested in "who" was behind it not "how" they did it.

Stophel says "government (this government...which has a long and sordid history of mass murder, torture, and tyranny) MIGHT be complicit in some small way to the attacks in 2001 are erroneous?"

The government's "sordid history" does not translate into the federal government or some agency or agents or hired contractors conspired to set charges inside the Twin Towers and the other building.

Another route

Why not use documentary evidence obtained from FBI field agents ( John Vincent and Robert Wright for example), network and cable news stories and use the testimony of many federal employees, military and civilian; testimony from foreign sources (Philipine police)to make a case? These people are still alive and the news stories are still part of the public record.

I don't recall The JBS saying anything about the government not having foreknowledge about 9-11. The New American magazine had plenty to say about it. Not only 9-11 but the OKC bombing and the mideast connections associated with that event.

Until we put a constitutionalist Congress back in control we'll have to use 9-11 Press For Truth produced by the Jersey Girls to use to get others on our side of the government had foreknowledge strategy. It's the best card we have in our hand.

Our JBS president had this to say about it:http://johnbirchsociety.org/news-center/birchtube/367- We+Are+Change+NYC+interviews+Art+Thompson,+CEO+of+the+J
ohn+Birch+Society+Part+2?userid=76

In this interview with "We Are Change, Mr. Thompson says that he is more interested in the "who" was behind 9-11 not the "how" the buildings were brought down.

911 was a Neocon job: they called for a New Pearl Harbor event, and got it

The WHO and the HOW are connected. And in fact there are videos and books making the case that the buildings (including WTC7) were brought down by controlled demolition, and also testimonies and evidence from horse's mouths of the who was likely behind the clear demolition. ae911truth regarding thermite, testimonies of Mineta and others about Cheney's stand down order, Bush's brother in charge of security as they "renovated" wiring throughout the buildings, Larry Silverstein's "we decided to pull it" quote, Giuliani and FEMA drills molten metal in basements months afterwards (from jet fuel in open fire?), all beams cut to size for trucks in the "collapse" and immediately shipped far away from possible investigation, the BBC reporting on WTC7's collapse while it is still standing behind the lady reporting live, etc. etc. Much of this is in Debunking 911 Debunking (though one must eschew his liberal political slants and rants, the EVIDENCE is what counts, and he thoroughly documents), and the dvd "911 Mysteries, Part 1: Demolitions" to name a few good sources.

I agree completely with Mr. Eddlem. We are not at war. The Congress was given an opportunity to declare war - and declined. People taken into custody as suspected terrorists are NOT combatants, legal or otherwise. They are criminal suspects. They are presumed innocent until proven guilty. If they are found guilty, they need to be incarcerated or executed. But they, like everyone else suspected of a crime, are entitled to an open, public trial.

We either follow the law, or we listen to criminal politicians. These same politicians who are telling us that we needn't worry about all the legal niceties when it come to terrorist, are telling us that returning Iraqi veterans are potential terrorists!

And these same politicians offer us protection from terrorism at the cost of our freedoms. Only a coward would sacrifice their freedom for the promise of security.

The key is a Constitution -oriented congress

You still need a Constitution oriented congress to get to the bottom of this.

a little history:
1)Had congress followed Larry McDonald's advice to re-activate the internal security committees of congress we would have two committees of congress with subpoena power. The House and the Senate could look into these national security issues even if the executive branch dragged its feet. As it is now congress relies on the president and his bureaus and agencies that never seem to connect the dots.

2)Had people joined us (JBS) and Congressman McDonald in getting this critical information on the growing threat to America by internationally-connected terror organizations; joined us in bugging congress with letters and phone calls, the people could have been pressuring Congress to restore our eyes and ears in congress. Then the FBI and other intelligence agencies would have friends in the legislative branch to take their intelligence gathering evidence to. Congress would then force the executive to connect the dots and make the arrests.

Telling us about thermite, molten metal,an overheard conversation with the owner of the building 7 and beams cut to fit a truck would be blown apart in a court room by a government attorney. It may sound like good topic material for a Jesse Ventura show but when push comes to shove will it stand up in court?

911 evidence

......would stand up in court, before a jury. Getting honest judges, real subpoenas, and a jury trial are the problem, as you all are suggesting. I agree we should not waste our time on this. I mean, that's why they killed Larry MacDonald!

But we can KNOW that we are in a spiritual war, and continue informing and praying. And this year, finally, people are becoming awake enough to vote for "alternative" candidates, no matter whether in parties or independent. Getting the US House of Representatives back is one key, but is a longer term goal. (And 1/3 + 1 is sufficient to prevent passage of unConstitutional budgets and sustain vetos.) Meanwhile, an immediate victory is at hand in state-level Houses and Senates, as well as the all-important but nearly forgotten Counties - all lesser magistrates with legal AUTHORITY to oppose unjust, illegal (that is, unConstitutional) power.

Back to 911, just getting people to wake up the the reality of the situation is itself valuable. One must have a map and a motivation to move off inertia to effective action, and also begin analyzing propaganda that is constantly being fed us. This is the point about 911 truth; not the liberals' direction, or the "limited hangout" of neocons to move people to statism via right or left blurring of appropriate government restraint.

Garbage this article

Silly fabrcations by leftist liars that the JBS would have skewered if it had been the 60's about "genital mutlation" and all these other lies that have been soundly refuted along weith the "koran in the toilet" lie, the "i was tortured" lie. Fact water boarding and psychological stress are far to lenient on these creeps and pigs aummary execution which is what happened in the War for Independence and Civl War and World War 2 like Churchill did with several nazi spies is more correct and no no imaginary "torture" has occured Calling these things torture is false and sickening typical opro-terrorist pro-plo propaganda Bush had tremendous power during this war a he used in correctly and severely reserved. None of these lies are legit and once I say have been soundly refuted these Terrorist have no right under the Geneva convetion as the convention correctly stipulates. Stop lying and slobbering for America's enemeies and exaggerating already refuted leftist trash. BTW these non-American are not covered by bthe USC and Holder is not holding show trials that pro terrorist lawyer and longtime leftist hack suggested those things to make himself look bold when in reality he's just covering horribley for the weakness the sabotage of the intel collection process and continued persuction of any real war effort the left has so successfully sabotaged apparently with the help of the JBS and other "rightists" who want the bill of rights to cover terrorists of foreign descent!

Dear God in heaven They have no right to a trial and the Amistad case is garbage. Foreigners have no right to our courts to claim so is bogus, and your smears of John Yoo continue to hysterically false and wrong. People like you create "Miranda" out of nowhere and want to prevent us form prevent another 9/11 or oorse which Bush did dozens fo times and made it reaaly hard for your friends Al-Hussani, Atta(who is still iving being the intel guy and setup man for ops that he is), Jose Padilla and the like Guess what jackasses in time of Wra and Rebellion the President can suspend havbias corpus he has tremendous power Bush exercised excellent use of itand wanted military tribunals to protect vital info intel and the lives of Americans traitors like you want to help them. I take the side of the Founding Fathers. Mosdog takes the side of the lynch mob?

"Anyone other US citizens and they do the right to a trial,...the Amistad case is garbage. Foreigners have no right to our courts to claim so is bogus,... People like you create "Miranda" out of nowhere..."

Ok mosdog, this is my respose to your above quotes:

The JbS or "people like" us" did not create "Miranda." The Supreme Court created it and that court decision infringed upon states rights. It' one thing to incarcerate suspects in a federal pen for nearly a decade and then criticize us for speaking up for the 5th, 6th , and 8th amendments to the Constitution. Your "miranda" slur is not even close to the issue.

You advocate mob rule and the lynch mob by the tone of your screed. And you dare critize me or the JBS for taking the side of the Founding Fathers who advocated giving trials to foreigners! John Quincy Adams was one of the defenders of the African freeman on board Amistad. They had been kidnapped and due to their skin color and language folks thought that they could give them back to their kidnappers. Fortunately the John Birchers of that era championed for a trial. No doubt you would have labelled them as "non-persons" and turned them over to their kidnappers or worse chanted like a blood thirsty mobster to "HANG 'EM!"

Your form of justice is to keep people locked up for years, no prospects of a trial and a regime of torture.

The Declaration of Independence set the stage for the Constitution. And unless you are totally dense and cannot reason you'll see that the language of the Constitution uses the word "person" and not citizen. Persons meaning every person on the earth. That was what our Founders said and everyone deserves a trial by jury not a trial by a lynch mob.

More on the mosdog rap

Americans need to champion the principles of the Constitution all over the world. An ideal world is to have all nations honor those ideals our Founders fought and died for. But if you say that an Arab or a middleastern person does not deserve our Bill of Rights you are being a hypocrite. If you are Christian and you claim to love Jesus yet you hate your enemy then you don't understand Jesus and you don't understand what the Framers of the Constituion gave us. You are a moral cripple who will never give America a chance to prove that we are serious about freedom, justice and God-given rights.

Bush II wanted to shove "democracy" down the throats of people with cruise missles, John Q. Adams said American goes not in search of monsters to destroy. Our culture is one of peace and justice. You can't force your will on people and expect them to like it and we need to get out of Iraq, Afghanistan and bring our troops home immediately.

God commanded his people in the bible to go to war many times throughout history in the bible.God even told his people how to prepare for war and what to do and it is not pretty. Was it murder in the eyes of God when David slew Goliath? NO! it was'nt at all.God blesses his people and is not obligated to bless people who serve under other gods.

When you go to war it is not pretty but you must fight to win.Extremist Muslims have been attacking for thousands of years in the name of their religion which is one reason the crusades happened.

To overlook the evidence of even history about extremists who are muslim is to fool yourself.I have no sympathy for our enemies they reject Jesus anyway I cannot change that and niether can you only God can in the meantime it is time do everything in our power to protect our country God has blessed us with and that includes waterboarding if it saves America.

SAH, the CFR is behind the war not God

Sah, let's be honest in identifying who is behind this unconstitutional war against Islam, it isn't God who is "commanding" us to go to war - it is the Council on Foreign Relations. It is they, not God, who has set the policy in America.

When was the last time America went to war under a full declaration of war by congress? Since World War II, all wars America has fought have been under the auspices of some subsidiary of the United Nations. Are you telling me that this NATO-run war in the middleast has the "blessing" of Jesus? The UN is about as anti-Jesus as you can get, my friend.

Stop paying attention to Dick Cheney and George "w" Bush and the other NeoCons on TV. Cheney hid his membership in the CFR from citizens in Wyoming while he ran for Congress. Would Jesus "bless" a war begun by a man like Cheney who is a sneak? I guess you've never heard of the Project For the New American Century? Why would the Lord gives his "blessing" to conspirators who lied us into a war against Iraq?

SAH the CFR is behind this war not God

752 AD was indeed the year that a Catholic by the name of Charles of Herstal(Charles "The Hammer") won a major battle against the Moors (Islam). The battle of Tour was a turning point for Christendom. Another great victory for Christians was Lepanto. http://www.thenewamerican.com/...-the-cross

Torture
The moors (muslims) were the ones who tortured their Christian captives. Yet you embrace torture as a weapon "to save America?" http://www.thenewamerican.com/...ushed-back

The only weapon we need is the truth. The truth is that wars since WWI glorify the modern-day Tower of Babel - the UN. And God isn't liked at the UN.

God commanded: love your enemies and "blessed are the peacemakers for they shall be called the children of God." The truth emanates from Him.

Cheney wanted to go to war with Iraq 8 years before Bush was elected. 9-11 gave him that excuse and anyone who knows anything about 9-11 knows that our intelligence agencies ( at the top) left the door wide open for the hijackers.

Hell is full of traitors and also full of fools who call wrong right and who call a lie the truth.

The Christian knew who his enemy was. Today the enemy is within pretending to be Christian but who shows his true colors if you watch him closely. The neocon warmongers claim to fight Islam, Islamic terrorism or the Jihadists yet they give them our money and even bring them here to America to train them!

You need to take your head out of the neocon/Obama bag. Both have joined CFR forces to destroy America using war to destroy our freedom.

Lee Gonzales,

I am not fooled by the media or Bush or Cheney. But Bush ran on and was elected to do what he did, the american people voted for him to do what he did after 9/11.I supported it then and still do despite all of the doom and gloom predictions that we were bombarded with by the mainstream media.

Bush stunk when it came to governing america but on protecting america he done as good as he could given the way wars are run and faught today all the while being bombarded by the mainstream media.

It would be nice to go back following the constitution like we were supposed to but this country has been so misgoverned for so long by both the right and the left that it is a pipedream to think we will ever go back to the way it should've been.

America ignored the warning signs of islamic terrorism that go back along time, years before 9/11 ever took place.I did'nt need to hear Bush tell me about how serious of a threat it is because extremist muslims have been attacking in the name of their religion for hundreds of years and not just towards christianity either.

SAH and why Bush was elected

Bush was elected as a reaction to Clinton's war policies.

Clinton was bombing Bosnia and making our troops wear UN insignia to carry on UN mandates. Bush was elected to end Clinton's war mongering. Bush was critical of the Democrat's foreign policy of aggression and said so over and over in his campaign speechs. Clinton was up to his eyeballs in CFR people who used war to build the central power in Washington. Once Bush was elected he filled his administration with the same war mongering CFR people. Cheney being the chief CFR flunky.

You say you don't trust the media? That's good but you don't know how the game is played. The media attacked Bush which made you support Bush all the more, yet the Major Media is controlled by the CFR. They attacked Bush and the more they did,the more you supported Bush's war policies, which is what they expected you do all along.

The CFR-run media gets the wars they want; the CFR Repubs and CFR Dems get their war, and we Americans end up with less freedom.

If you like war so much why don't you begin now to donate to Obama's re-election campaign? He plans on expanding the war into Iran. You like war so you should cheer its expansion. You aren't any smarter than those dumb Democrats who voted for him believing he would end the war as soon as he got into office.

Boy, how easy the Establishment plays you for fools. And you come to this site bragging about your support for torture!

Lee Gonzales,

Me supporting the war had nothing to do with what the mainstream media reported. But if the CFR was controlling it then it was'nt very smart because Bush lost popularity because of the bombardment by the media.I just knew Islamic terrorism needed to be dealt with and seen how determined Bush was about it.

You say I should support Obama's war effort? I don't because of things he said that lets me know he does'nt have the right attitude to fight this war.He does'nt even seem to understand the threat we face. And if you were mad at Bush the way he had to deal with the UN Obama would be even worse dealing with them.

If the CFR is ruling the media then they are on the left's side but don't worry I am not fooled by what they report.I've learned through the years that they cannot be trusted. As a matter of fact they are a big reason why this country does'nt follow the constitution anymore.Be careful about trusting them when they accuse the Bush administration of torturing islamic terrorists especially if the CFR is wanting a war and controlling the media.

Actually, Thomas Eddlem, in respect to your quote:
"the Fifth and Sixth Amendments guarantee that everyone in U.S. custody — even foreigners — a right to trial and due process of law..." as stated by the Fifth amendment is a contradiction WITH the V amendment,(starting at 3rd sentence):
"except in cases arising in the land or naval forces, or in the Militia, when in actual service in time of War or public danger; "

Sah, put the remote down and crack open a good book

Book one:
http://www.shopjbs.org/index.p...klet.html
This is a small booklet that provides in a nutshell the "war on terrorism" written by the CEO of The JBS

Book two:
http://www.shopjbs.org/index.php/shadows-of-power.html

Shadows of Power provides an in depth, look at the Council on Foreign Relations.

In order to get on the same page with many other JBS members at this site you have to do some reading. Watching cable News shows isn't going to get you there. Fox may sound great because they blast Obama, but Fox isn't going to provide you with the necessary understanding you'll need to put the whole picture together. You may get glimpses occassionally like the Hanitty and Dick Morris exchange:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=weBned0HHJc

Guess who they were talking about? The JBS recognized the UN as a creation of the CFR and began a campaign to get congress to cancel our membership in the world body. An obvious reason for getting out is for the sake of our national sovereignty. Does it makes sense to you that if UN Security Council member states like Russia and China fund terror groups as Art Thompson says evidence point tothose tow countries, why would you think they would be invited by Bush and today by Obama to fight "the war on terrorism?"

On the rare occassions when Fox interviews people like Tom Wood author of Politically Incorrect Guide to American History,Fox is mostly about bashing the Democrats, yet have you noticed they don't invite JBS on? They invariably have on as guests the Democrats and liberals they claim to dislike so much!

I made two recommendations and they are two good ones for anyone who wishes to quickly make sense out of international politics, terrorism and world government.

Thanks for the info I will check it out.I love to read and research ideas, other opinions, other religions, etc.I will admit I am a conservative minded person who feels conservatism has never really been tried and has totally been misrepresented by politicians.

A true conservative agenda would be great for America but it has never really been tried. What good is it if conservative principles are explained over and over but never really put into action or given a chance to succeed? This country has slowly drifted over time to a thing that runs totally contrary to what the forefathers envisioned for America and I just don't see a change coming anytime soon.

Based on reading the bible as well as studying prophecies I know a oneworld government is in the works the problem I have though with some groups I have researched like these NWO groups is that they totally misuse bible prophecy and don't have a clear understanding of it.

True bible prophecy is revealed over time and God gets the glory not some conspracy group that acts like you don't know what is going on if you are'nt buying into their conspiracies all the while misrepresenting true prophecy.

I believe it gives true bible prophecy a bad reputation and true bible prophecy is misrepresented.I mean sure even true bible prophecy teachers don't always agree on every point but among them but bible prophecy is not misused or misrepresented.

I realize even true bible prophecy can be considered a conspiracy but to me it is one of the greatest evidences of God's word being true and it should not be misused or misrepresented like some conspiracy groups have done I have researched.

FACT? Erroneous?

"...despite the fact that the “birthers” and “truthers” pursue an erroneous train of thought..."

Read that sentence carefully. FACT? The FACT is, you don't KNOW. Neither do the "truthers." So whose train of thought is erroneous?

If the writer has some new information that NIST and the 9/11 commission didn't have access, which PROVES the official story, then I think he has a responsibility to come forward with it.
