Wilton Alston is a principal research scientist working in the field of transportation safety, specifically with regard to trains and transit. A libertarian activist and writer, and a speaker for the JBS Speaker's Bureau, Mr. Alston’s columns have appeared in such places as LewRockwell.com, Strike-the-Root.com and around the Internet blogosphere.
Mr. Alston prides himself on applying libertarian legal analysis and ethics to a wide range of interesting topics, analyzing them in a manner that interests not only the doctrinaire thinker, but also the layman.
He’s penned columns with titles such as: “Where Have All the Black Libertarians Gone?” “Why Is Pat Tillman Dead?” “Why Is There A War on Drugs?” “Who Killed Ted Westhusing?” “Does High-Fructose Corn Syrup Have to Be In Everything “Tell Me Again Why You’re a Libertarian?”
While he could generally be described as a libertarian, a more appropriate and more accurate designation, Alston says, would be anarcho-capitalist.
As such, his well-reasoned views include:
• The most peaceful society is the one that lives under anarchy, not a forcible state.
• The most basic expression and most fundamental dogma in libertarian theory is the non-aggression axiom – the initiation of force is never justified.
• The mainstream political parties are inherently similar, barely avoiding being identical; therefore, spending any time debating about them is time wasted.
• The best means by which to right past wrongs are private, not via legislation.
Wilt Alston lives in Rochester, NY, with his wife and three children.
