A Forbes article says there's a real threat of U.S. ratification of the UN arms treaty under now-increased pressure to “do something” after the Aurora shootings.  Furthermore, drawing from R. J. Rummel's revealing work, Death by Government, we can conclude that there are worse things than a lone (or supported) shooter. What’s immeasurably worse is when the government itself has unlimited power over its people.
Last month, the U.S. military celebrated its first on-base “wedding” ceremony for same-sex couples when an Air Force sergeant “married” his homosexual partner at a base in New Jersey. Tech Sgt. Erwynn Umali and Will Behrens, a civilian, “married” June 23 on the grounds of Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst in New Jersey, where Umali was stationed.
The Justice Department is suing a telecommunications company for challenging a request from the Federal Bureau of Investigation for customer information — despite the fact that the law authorizing the request explicitly permits such challenges.
Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) says he will sue President Obama because of the president’s illegal order to stop the deportation of illegal aliens under a certain age, and that the lawsuit is within weeks of being filed.  King is ready to proceed with the legal action he has been planning against Obama, The Daily Caller reported last week. He announced his plans to sue Obama during an interview with the Des Moines Register in June.
Outraged U.S. members of Congress on both sides of the aisle are speaking out against the United Nations “World Intellectual Property Organization” (WIPO) after it was caught providing potentially dangerous American technology to the regimes ruling Iran and North Korea. The UN agency reluctantly promised to “review” the issue, but GOP and Democrat lawmakers on Capitol Hill say that is simply not enough.
The U.S. Department of Defense (DOD) appears to be bending over backwards to make certain that homosexuals feel accepted and valued in the military. On July 21, Defense Secretary Leon Panetta permitted active duty military personnel to march in uniform in San Diego’s notorious “gay pride” parade, the first time such an allowance has been made.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is attracting renewed scrutiny after an outraged senior official resigned last month, saying he was “ashamed” to even be associated with the Fund while publicly blasting it for “incompetence,” illegitimate selection of “tainted” leadership, and suppressing critical information. After serving at the global organization for some two decades, IMF economist Peter Doyle — a former division chief at the European Department and a respected advisor when he jumped ship — also said many of the problems were actually “becoming more deeply entrenched.”
The Obama administration’s efforts to plug the leaks in government continue as Secretary of Defense Leon Panetta on Thursday ordered Pentagon officials to monitor the media for any hint of unauthorized disclosures of classified or other sensitive government information.  Just hours after emerging from a private meeting with the House of Representatives Armed Services Committee reportedly dealing with the recent alleged leaks of government secrets, Panetta issued the directive.
On April 22 of this year a convicted felon, just out of jail, went to an Aurora, Colorado, church and shot and killed a member of the congregation before being killed himself by a congregant carrying a gun. If not for the presence of the armed congregant, many more innocent people could have been killed. On July 20, another gunman opened fire in an Aurora movie theater — a "gun free" zone — where he was able to kill at least 12 and wound dozens of others without any of the defenseless moviegoers being able to return fire.
Despite his father’s invitation to the Republican Convention apparently having been lost in the mail, Senator Rand Paul (R-Ky.) is encouraging the army of Ron Paul supporters not to give up on the GOP.  Appearing on CNN Thursday, the first-term senator said that his father has stoked the fires of a freedom movement that will have “an enormous effect” on the future of the Republican Party, if they can be convinced not to abandon it.
