APPLETON, WIS. – December 14, 2011 – Republican candidate for president and former U.S. Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich proclaims himself a conservative, but his voting record and past rhetoric prove differently.
John McManus president of The John Birch Society looks into Newt Gingrich’s record in the DVD, “The Real Newt Gingrich.”
Throughout this DVD, McManus describes that through voting records and public statements that Newt Gingrich has proved he is not a constitutional conservative. Mr. McManus has predicted that “under his leadership there would be no rollback of the enormous growth in federal government.”
McManus also states, “his actions clearly demonstrated he was no friend of limited government under the constitution.”
Recently, The New American featured an article by Thomas Eddlem, Gingrich Interview: Glenn Beck Slices, Dices Newt's Phony Conservative Credentials, which describes how Gingrich’s conservative credentials are phony, which strongly supports McManus’s assertions.
Eddlem points out that Beck forced a flagrant flip-flop on subsidies and revealed “Gingrich’s support of an individual healthcare mandate, limits on carbon emissions, and ties to Freddie Mac during the housing bubble.”
According to Eddlem,“Gingrich went on to confirm the flip-flop explicitly moments later, that government should pick winners and losers with subsidies in order to control people's behavior: ‘What I object to is subsidizing things that don’t work and things that aren’t creating a better future. And the problem with the modern welfare state is it actually encourages people to the wrong behaviors, encourages them not to work, encourages them not to study.’”
Please contact Hannah Brems to schedule an interview with McManus to discuss Newt Gingrich’s brand of conservatism.
