Executives of the historic firearms companies on America's East Coast may not all be young men, but they might want to follow Horace Greeley's advice, anyway. They may want to go west if legislators in New York and Connecticut pass laws that would limit their sales while driving up their costs.

Republican lawmakers investigating the Obama administration’s deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-trafficking scandal want to know why one of the top disgraced figures at the center of the scheme — William McMahon, who may soon be prosecuted for perjury — is now on “paid leave” collecting a six-figure paycheck while working full-time for banking giant J.P. Morgan overseas. The revelations of “double dipping” and the looming potential prosecution represent the latest chapters in an ongoing saga that countless analysts have dubbed Obama’s “Watergate.”

After announcing last week that George Zimmerman would seek a “Stand Your Ground” hearing to get the murder charges dismissed in the February shooting death of Trayvon Martin, defense attorney Mark O’Mara said August 13 that his client would now be relying on a traditional self-defense argument instead. The lawyer argued that Zimmerman had no way to flee as Martin had him pinned to the ground, making “Stand Your Ground” protections unnecessary to win the case.

The House Oversight Committee investigating the Obama administration’s deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running scandal is seeking enforcement of formal charges against disgraced Attorney General Eric Holder in U.S. Court, demanding access to crucial documents that are being unlawfully withheld as part of what investigators say amounts to a cover up. The announcement of the widely anticipated legal maneuver was welcomed by activists seeking truth and accountability, but more must still be done.

George Zimmerman, accused of murder by state prosecutors in Trayvon Martin’s fatal shooting, will be seeking a hearing aimed at getting the charges dismissed by a judge before the case even goes to trial, his attorney announced on Thursday in a widely anticipated move. Legal analysts say that, based on Florida’s “Stand Your Ground” self-defense law and available evidence, Zimmerman has a good chance at success. An attorney for Martin’s family, however, vehemently disagreed.

Conservatism is defensive in nature, being concerned with conserving the status quo, but never builds its ramparts high enough to be unscalable or wields its sword boldly enough to slay those who would breach its walls. Liberals ever return to the bargaining table asking for more laws, mandates, regulations or programs, and conservatives are always “reasonable.” And the end result is inevitable: After enough time, the Left has everything it wants.

Congressional investigators probing the Obama administration’s deadly “Fast and Furious” gun-running scheme concluded that senior Justice Department figures and five top officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) were responsible for the tragic program, according to the first segment of an official report. All of the ATF figures still work for the agency.

A federal appeals court has upheld a Georgia statute that prohibits guns in churches, rejecting the claims of a pastor and a gun rights group that the law violates both the First Amendment’s guarantee of citizens’ right of religious freedom, as well as the Second Amendment guarantee of the right to keep and bear arms.

The month-long United Nations conference to draw up a global Arms Trade Treaty (ATT) failed to achieve consensus after the United States, Russia, and China requested more time to consider a draft treaty, according to the United Nations.

Stewart M. Patrick of the New York-based Council on Foreign Relations says that gun owners' concerns about a United Nations small arms treaty, the so-called Arms Trade Treaty(ATT) being drafted in New York this month, “are not only inflammatory, they are completely unfounded.” The CFR pronounces that “Your Guns Are in Safe Hands” with the United Nations.
