This material, is excerpted from an essay by Robert Welch, which served as his "Foreward" to the June 1970 Bulletin of The John Birch Society. His arguments against government-run health care, such as our present-day ObamaCare, are still valid. Welch noted in the February 1976 JBS Bulletin that "There are more physicians and surgeons who belong to The John Birch Society than people who earn their daily bread in any other way." This tendency for doctors to become Americanist boosters was attributed to the fact that the hard-working physician was "more inclined to be an individualist instead of a collectivist...." In addition, the financial independence and high degree of respect earned by the doctor was seen by Robert Welch as protecting the physician from "outside views and pressures."
Here is the classic Robert Welch address, "Medicine Leads the Way," in which the founder of The John Birch Society provides the historical context for the premier importance of socializing medicine in the schemes of progressives, socialists, and communists to socialize national economies. Preserving Individual Rights & National Independence

The Declaration of Independence established the independence of both the original 13 American colonies and the United States of America that they together formed a decade later.
The Declaration proclaimed that our personal rights come from God, not from government.
The John Birch Society endorses the timeless principles of the Declaration of Independence. The Society also labors to warn against and expose the forces that seek to abolish U.S. independence, build a world government, or otherwise undermine our personal liberties and national independence.
Restoring the Constitution

The Constitution of the United States of America instituted the government that secures our God-given rights.
The John Birch Society endorses the U.S. Constitution as the foundation of our national government, and works toward educating and activating Americans to abide by the original intent of the Founding Fathers. We seek to awaken a sleeping and apathetic people concerning the designs of those who are working to destroy our constitutional Republic.
