Oppose the Terrible Trio in Congress Although there seem to be dozens of dangerous legislative proposals under consideration by Congress, there are three that are particularly important to oppose: (1) Healthcare Reform; (2) Cap and Trade Energy “Tax”; and (3) UN Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST). The first two are arguably the top two legislative priorities for President Obama this year. The third is certainly a high priority for Obama this year also. Each of these three proposals would implement “transformational” changes in our system of government. The first two would be major steps toward the total control of our economy by the federal government. The third would be a major step toward total control of the nations of the world by the United Nations. Since President Obama has set a goal for Congress to pass healthcare reform legislation before taking its August break, such legislation might already have been considered by the time you read this month’s Bulletin. However, those who read the online version of this August Bulletin during the last days of July might still have time to notify their representative and senators in opposition to what will amount to a cleverly disguised government takeover of the remaining private segments of our healthcare system.
If you’re online, go immediately to JBS.org and click on “Legislative Action” under the “Action” menu tab. Click on the most recent legislative alert regarding healthcare to see if you still have time to contact your representative and senators in opposition to President Obama’s stealth government takeover of our healthcare system. If you’re not online, you’ll need to keep up with the healthcare reform legislation via TV and newspaper and contact your representative and senators as appropriate. Visit, phone, or email them in strong opposition to this government takeover of healthcare. Don’t be fooled by deceptive concessions and compromises. Proponents will promise whatever they have to in order to get some form of healthcare reform legislation on the books. Over the next few years they would build on such legislation to complete their takeover of all healthcare. As you are probably aware by now, ‘cap and trade’ laws would increase energy costs for American households by several thousands of dollars per year. Such a hugely expensive energy “tax” should be rejected out of hand by Congress; however, there are still enough true believers in the myth of human-caused global warming in the nation and Congress to make passage of cap and trade bills possible.
The House has already passed a cap and trade energy tax bill (H.R. 2454) by 219-212 on June 26. As this Bulletin is being written in early July, it appears that the Senate will not be voting on its version of cap and trade until after the August break. This gives us some time to build pressure on the Senate to vote against such legislation. Furthermore, since the Senate will likely be voting on a different version of cap and trade from what was passed in the House, there should be at least one more vote on a cap and trade compromise bill in the House. So, keep the pressure on both the Senate and the House to defeat any form of cap and trade global warming legislation. If you’re online, go to JBS.org, click on “Legislative Action” under the “Action” menu tab, and click on the most recent cap and trade legislative alert for the latest updates and recommended actions. Although this LOST treaty has been in limbo for decades ever since President Reagan refused to sign it in 1982, President Obama has made it a priority for ratification this year. Even though 158 nations have already ratified LOST and it would appear to many to be a no-brainer for the U.S. to ratify it, there is one little problem. United States ratification of LOST would give our nation’s endorsement to UN control over everything that happens over, on, under, and in the world’s oceans and seas. Throw in probable mission creep by the UN to claim jurisdiction over the quality of all waters draining into the world’s oceans and seas and you can see that LOST empowers the UN to regulate a whole range of activities on the continental land masses too. If we fail to stop ratification of LOST by the Senate this year, we’ll be second-guessing ourselves for years as to why we didn’t work hard enough to stop a very important step toward UN world government. If you haven’t done so already, start contacting your senators and their offices and find out where they stand on LOST. Check under “Legislative Action” on JBS.org for pre-written, editable emails. Use our “LOST: Law of the Sea Treaty” reprint (available from ShopJBS.org and online at TheNewAmerican.com) to educate your senators and your fellow citizens, especially the newly awakened activists in our midst. We need to find 34 senators who’ll refuse to ratify this treaty. At this point I’d say ratification appears to be probable, so we need to get down to work and stop LOST! Action Summary:
