Israel to Get GBU-39 Bombs from U.S. PDF Print E-mail

The U.S. Defense Security Cooperation Agency, a division of the U.S. Defense Department, announced, on September 9, the pending sale of 1,000 GBU-39 bombs to Israel.

The GBU-39 small bomb is a superior and potent bomb that combines aerodynamics with a warhead design crafted to punch into targets with the force of a weapon several times its size. To be used against bunkers and concrete nuclear reactor shells, it has the potential to raise the number of targets, impact points, and at the same time, to lower collateral damage.

For a mere $77 million, the U.S. government will throw in a host of bells and whistles and extra equipment including, “spare and repair parts, support equipment, personnel training and equipment, publications and technical data, contractor engineering and logistics personnel services, and other related elements of logistics support.” They’ll even throw in “multiple trips to Israel by U.S. government and contractor representatives for one-week intervals for approximately three years.”

Boeing in St. Louis, Missouri, will get the contract.

All this, the Defense Department says, will help “promote Middle East peace, support Israel’s commitment to peace with other regional Arab countries, enhance regional stability, and promote Israeli readiness.”

The U.S. insists that the proposed sale “will not affect the basic military balance in the region.” And they also insist this sale is “vital to the U.S. national interests to assist Israel.”

Who is kidding who? These are not weapons of defense, but offense.

It doesn’t take a defense analyst to see the handwriting on the wall. Iran and Syria are the probable targets. If Israel starts something, and there has been plenty of talk from them that they want to over the last few months, there is no doubt that America will enter in and absolutely pummel Iran and Syria. This will undoubtedly escalate with the speed of light into a regional conflict, with Iran shutting down access to its oil. If they feel they are threatened with possible extinction, they will fight back with everything they have including biological weapons. And if they enlist the help of their friends, China and Russia, we will certainly have — well, I'll leave that to the imagination.
