Preserving Independence Day for Future Generations

The Fourth of July is significant for so many reasons. American sovereignty was proclaimed in July 1776 with the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This announced America’s separation from Great Britain and acknowledged our God-given rights. It describes the source of our unalienable rights, and it officially declared our independence from a tyrannical government!

Specifically quoting the Declaration of Independence: 
 
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal … that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights … that to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men.
This portion of the Declaration of Independence was commented on by The John Birch Society’s founder, Robert Welch, in his “Republic and Democracies” speech in September 17, 1961 as follows: 
 
Now [this philosophy of government] seems to me to be the most important addition to the theory of government in all history. 
We must remember the fact that our rights are God-given. Since they do not originate from man or government, they cannot be taken away. There is no negotiation because they came from God. Robert Welch went on saying: 
 
The idea that the vote of a people, no matter how nearly unanimous, makes or creates or determines what is right or just becomes as absurd and unacceptable as the idea that right and justice are simply whatever a king says they are. … And that government is merely a convenience, superimposed on Divine Commandments and on the natural laws that flow only from the Creator of man and man’s universe. 
Sadly, this philosophy has been neglected. For the sake of future generations of Americans, we must preserve this understanding that our rights are God-given and not government-given. Help us hold up this beacon of liberty in celebrating and educating this Independence Day!
