May 12-18, 2019 marks National Police Week, giving us an extra chance to appreciate those who put their life on the line each and every day. Local police not only have to endure the difficulty of maintaining law and order, but also the pressure of the gradual federalization of the police forces. That is why The John Birch Society has consistently supported local police and worked to keep them independent of federal control. With increasing pressure from the federal government, local police need all the support they can get.
In case you missed it, last week Mexico’s Senate passed a progressive labor reform bill, which brings us one step closer to the U.S. Congress ratifying the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA). Congressional approval of the USMCA trade agreement would accelerate the development of a North American Union (NAU), which would threaten our God-given rights as secured by the U.S. Constitution and strip America of its sovereignty. Meaning, there is no time to waste in preventing its passage.
A series of deadlines must be met by the Trump administration and Congress before the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) can be implemented. Troublesomely, it could all get completed this year, maybe even before the fall. Recall, that President Trump has already signed the deal; administration officials just have to work with Congress on getting an implementation bill introduced and passed. Those who value liberty, sovereignty, and our U.S. Constitution better be paying attention because that is exactly what will be stripped away if the USMCA becomes law!
With the Equality Act being reintroduced, it is apparent that Congress needs to brush up on the Constitution. If Congress needs a refresher of the First Amendment, it says “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise thereof…” Now Democrats are blatantly ignoring this key provision of the Bill of Rights and are promoting an act that infringes on the freedom of religion and clearly crosses the Constitutional line when it comes to what America was founded upon.
Even though all congressmen swear an oath to uphold the U.S. Constitution, most do not even remotely follow it. It is our responsibility as We the People to highlight their dishonesty and hold them accountable to the promises they’ve made. Knowing that the Constitution has a list of specific enumerated powers that the federal government may exercise, and all other powers, not listed in the Constitution “are reserved to the states, respectively, or to the people,” we can clearly see that the federal government has grown way out of its constitutional limitations.
President Trump’s immigration reform has everyone holding their breath. From a campaign promise to build the wall, imposing new tariffs, and now threatening to close the border, uncertainty is looming. What is certain though is that the White House is aiming to have Congress swiftly approve the USMCA “trade deal” before the August recess. With some Democrat lawmakers flagging issues such as environmental standards, labor and enforcement rules, and more with pharmaceuticals, they are missing much larger threats with the USMCA that will directly affect your day-to-day life.
Last week, the Trump administration’s Department of Justice (DOJ) sided with a district court ruling that sought the invalidation of the Affordable Care Act and its provisions. Commonly referred to as Obamacare, the Affordable Care Act has been downright unconstitutional from the start, but eliminating it and removing the option for a replacement, won’t be easy. Obamacare has been deeply interlaced into the American healthcare system and has laid the framework for socialized healthcare.
The federal government has grown WAY too big: there is no debate there. Nevertheless Convention of States (COS), Wolf PAC, and Balanced Budget Amendment (BBA) promoters are working tirelessly on a “solution” that won’t solve anything: an Article V convention, where two-thirds of the states can bring about a convention to propose amendments by applying to Congress to call one. But with politicians not following the Constitution now, why would they follow a revised version? Furthermore, calling for an Article V convention cannot be limited to either a single issue or a few issues. Therefore, this type of convention would have the power to completely rewrite our Constitution, including eliminating constitutional protections for any or all of our God-given rights.
Even though Britain voted to leave the European Union (EU) in 2016, a full “Brexit” has yet to happen. Massive hurdles, roadblocks, and loopholes have made it harder than ever for United Kingdom lawmakers to actually free itself from the clutches of the EU. Prime Minister Theresa May’s proposed deals have already failed twice in parliament. Now the departure from the EU may be postponed or Britain may still leave without a deal. Wednesday is the deadline for the UK to vote for a third time.
The United States Electoral College is a truly valuable asset to our country. It showcases America as a Constitutional Republic and not a democracy, or mob rule. By reining in voter fraud and securing individual rights, the Electoral College has effectively done its job for well over 200 years. But now a huge movement to abolish the Electoral College is on the rise: the National Popular Vote (NPV) Interstate Compact!
